Aquest treball presenta el procés de disseny d'un suport per a panells solars el qual s'orienta automàticament segons la radiació rebuda del sol. L'objectiu principal ´es aconseguir augmentar l'eficiència energ`etica d'un dels productes del sector més usats en els ´ultims anys. Per això, mitjan¸cant un proc´es iteratiu i de comparaci´o entre productes, idees, dissenys, etc. s'arriba a una proposta final usant tant elements i components ja existents en el mercat com nous conceptes aplicats. Amb uns estudis per veure la seva viabilitat, el projecte acaba amb la possibilitat de millora de futur. This work presents the process of designing a support for solar panels, which is automatically oriented according to the radiation received from the sun. The main objective is to increase the energy efficiency of one of the most used products in the sector in recent years. Therefore, through an iterative process and comparison between products, ideas, designs, etc., a final proposal is reached using both elements and components already existing in the market and new applied concepts. With studies to see its viability, the project ends with the possibility of future improvement

This project aims to study the use of commercially available polymers that can be printed using FDM technology for application in small satellites (SmallSats). The great interest in space has led to increased investment in launch vehicles and missions, which have reduced launch costs and increased accessibility to space. This has allowed low-budget organisations to carry out their own satellite missions, as is the case of the UPC Space Program mission in which this project is being developed, the Horus mission. As a consequence of the use of thermoplastic filaments in the FDM 3D printing technique, a study has been developed on the properties of these polymers, and the suitability of their properties to the requirements imposed by the severe environmental conditions of space. Specifically, the conditions in low Earth orbit (LEO) have been studied, and which of these effects represent the most relevant in reference to the polymers. Subsequently, a set of requirements have been established highlighting mechanical properties, thermal properties, and parameters concerning the exposure of materials to vacuum, in order to evaluate the performance of the materials under these conditions. Within the classification of thermoplastics, a limitation of the study towards polymers with remarkable properties has allowed the development of a quantitative and qualitative study on some outstanding candidates. From these studies, two materials stand out, which are suitable for the requirements of space. Firstly, polyether ether ketone (PEEK), which is the most suitable candidate. In second place comes polycarbonate (PC), which unlike the first, stands out because it can be printed with the 3D printer available on the organisation due to its lower printing temperature. A final analysis of these two candidates provides research studies and cases of the application of these materials in the space sector, giving rise to their use in the framework of the mission. In addition to this study, a series of activities are proposed to be carried out later with the collaboration of other members of the mission, so that the completion of this project will lead to a practical continuity, to test the use of 3D printed polymers in PocketCubes structures.

Actualmente las mayores pérdidas en el sector agrícola proceden de patologías causadas por hongos. Una de las enfermedades fúngicas que tiene mayor repercusión sobre una amplia variedad de cultivos, entre ellas la uva, es la causada por Botrytis cinerea. Hay una creciente demanda de soluciones eficaces y sobre todo sostenibles, con una tecnología que incorpore únicamente compuestos naturales procedentes de recursos renovables como alternativa o complemento a los tratamientos fitosanitarios y de síntesis a base de compuestos potencialmente dañinos para el medio ambiente. En esta línea de investigación, y con el objetivo de reducir el uso de aditivos químicos en la industria alimentaria, se ha planteado el desarrollo de un extracto de origen natural para aplicación en uvas Moscatel de Alejandría postcosecha que constituya la parte bioactiva funcional del recubrimiento comestible. Se ha determinado la extracción de tomillo con agua destilada a temperatura ambiente durante 4 horas como la metodología más sencilla y eficiente posible en cuanto al crecimiento in vivo de Botrytis cinerea sobre uva. Adicionalmente se ha determinado de la actividad antioxidante total por dos metodologías diferentes, FRAP y ABTS +, y se han obtenido valores de 8308.05 ¿M sulfato ferroso/g de extracto de tomillo y 6222,25 ¿M Trolox/g de extracto de tomillo respectivamente. Al evaluar los parámetros físico-químicos de la uva con el extracto de tomillo, se ha concluido que el extracto de tomillo reduce el porcentaje de pérdida de peso, mejora la apariencia general, el brillo y el color de la uva durante 13 días. La evaluación sensorial (apariencia general, color, sabor e intención de compra) ha sido significativamente mejor para la uva con el extracto de tomillo. Además, no se han apreciado cambios considerables respecto a las uvas control en parámetros como la humedad, sólidos totales, sólidos solubles y pH.

The following end-of-degree thesis aims to propose a solution to the problem of fast fashion in the field of footwear, specifically in sneakers. Footwear, regardless of the type, ends up getting dirty and worn out with regular use. This project addresses this issue from a sustainable and environmentally conscious perspective. It seeks to promote a paradigm shift towards a more responsible and durable consumption. To achieve this, the design and conceptualization of a series of sustainable products for the care and maintenance of footwear, all of them integrated in a kit format, is presented. Through a market analysis, the millennial and Z generations are identified as the target audience for this product, since these generations show a growing interest in sustainability and conscious fashion. Using creative techniques and proposing several kit design proposals, each one of them is studied to develop a technically sustainable, ergonomic and user-centered solution. This final proposal is worked out technically, materials and processes are selected, and the necessary graphic elements are created for marketing, branding and packaging. A study of the environmental and social implications of the production of this kit is carried out, where the importance of the selection of materials in the design of a product is observed. Throughout the project, the previously established objectives are successfully achieved. Finally, the conclusions highlight the importance of designing taking into account the environmental implications to avoid mass consumption in the fashion world.

Este trabajo nos permitirá entender, que son las fibras, como se forman los hilos con ellas y a partir de estos como se forman los tejidos, fijándonos sobre todo en las opciones más utilizadas en la industria del automóvil. Se presentarán las diferentes opciones naturales y artificiales con las que se trabaja en la empresa de estudio y veremos las diferencias, puntos a favor y puntos en contra de utilizar estos tejidos en la ya comentada industria automovilística. Para ello se compararán resultados técnicos, medioambientales y a nivel comercial, todo esto con tejidos técnicamente iguales (mismo tipo de tejeduría y mismo tipo de hilos). Al final veremos cuales son las opciones más viables a todos los niveles y cuales son las que deberíamos de desechar o no, esto lo haremos utilizando unos valores de referencia como son los del poliéster reciclado, que actualmente es la opción “eco-friendly” que se esta utilizando en el mundo de la automoción.

La industria del café es una de las más importantes a nivel mundial en el sector de la alimentación. Esto ha conducido a que se haya convertido en los últimos siglos en una gran fuente de residuos por todo el planeta. Es por ello que es muy importante evaluar el impacto que tiene sobre el medioambiente la producción de esta bebida y tratar de buscar soluciones que reduzcan dicho impacto y favorezcan al desarrollo de la economía circular y la mejora de la sostenibilidad. Con estos objetivos de partida, se va analizar en este trabajo el estado actual de la industria del café, así como las posibles revalorizaciones de los residuos orgánicos que se generan año tras año. Dado que el café destaca por ser una bebida que contiene excelentes propiedades bioactivas que proporciona grandes beneficios a la salud de las personas, se va a estudiar en qué medida estas propiedades están también presentes en los subproductos derivados de la producción del café y cómo pueden servir para generar nuevos productos que sirvan para dar una segunda vida útil a los mencionados residuos. De hecho, en este trabajo se ha elaborado a nivel experimental una aplicación en la que se han reaprovechado residuos de cascarilla y posos de café para formar films biodegradables que pueden servir de base para fabricar en el futuro nuevos envases que sustituyan a los actuales de plástico, los cuales son perjudiciales para el medioambiente debido a la dificultad que presentan a la hora de ser reciclados.

Según la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO), cerca al 30% de la producción global de alimentos, se desperdicia durante su cosecha, procesamiento y consumo final, un equivalente a 1.300 millones de toneladas al año, lo que supone cantidades ingentes de recursos destinados a la producción de alimentos que se usan inútilmente. En la actualidad, la revalorización de subproductos agrícolas o agroindustriales siguen teniendo un carácter tradicional, lo que significa una pérdida de valor con un alto potencial de aprovechamiento. En ese sentido y como alternativa a este tipo de aplicaciones con bajo o nulo valor, está claro el planteamiento de nuevas propuestas de valorización, como por ejemplo la obtención de nuevos materiales, donde la idea fundamental es la de aprovechar estos subproductos. El presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster tiene como objetivo realizar un estudio que contenga una parte importante del sector agroalimentario o agrícola en Catalunya, desde el punto de vista de generación de subproductos y las posibilidades de revalorización que existe de estos, sobre todo enfocados en el aprovechamiento de los subproductos de naturaleza fibrosa y su potencial en cuanto aplicaciones en nuevos materiales, de esta manera contribuir a la economía circular utilizando recursos biodegradables. En primer lugar, se realizará una descripción de la industria agroalimentaria global y catalana, seguidamente se analizará las principales fuentes agrícolas con mayor peso en Catalunya y se hablará de la situación actual en un contexto global de estos cultivos, a continuación, se hará un breve resumen de carácter morfológico de los cultivos con mayor volumen de producción. Se analizará los subproductos generados, donde se apreciará el tipo y cantidad, recogiendo datos estadísticos, así como referencias bibliográficas sobre coeficientes de generación de subproductos del procesamiento de alimentos. Por último, ya en una parte más experimental del proyecto, se seleccionará dos subproductos, y se evaluará la influencia del tipo de incorporación de subproducto fibroso y variación en la concentración (0, 2,5 y 5%) sobre las propiedades en películas de almidón de arroz

Este trabajo de fin de grado consiste en el desarrollo del concepto de diseño de un dispositivo que cambia el líquido de lentillas automáticamente y que, al mismo tiempo, a través de la aplicación móvil informa al usuario sobre información relacionada con las lentillas y la salud de sus ojos, así como del propio dispositivo. Además del diseño, se ha realizado todo el contenido de previsualización del producto: renders, animaciones, catálogo, video promocional, prototipo de la aplicación y prototipo del producto. También se ha realizado el mapa de cableado y se han buscado los componentes electrónicos para poder realizar un prototipo funcional en un futuro y se ha comenzado a programar algunas de las funciones que tienen que realizar

Nowadays, the vessels have evolved a lot and there have been produced different designs, from sailing boats to motor boats, all of them made to cover all kinds of necessities, among which the comfort, the speed, aesthetics, etc. But there is one variable that remains with not much of improvement and it is the adaptation of the vessels for people with disabled mobility. Given that the people who suffer these situations have to made their own solution because of the variability of cases, in this project I will design a device for a specific vessel model in order to make easier the dip from the vessel for people with reduced mobility and help them to have a major level of independence on a boat. This will be achieved through an initial study of existing devices options for the bath from a boat, an analysis of the components that the device should contain, and then, the idea will be developed through SolidWorks.

Polymer-clay nanocomposite materials are relatively mature and widely studied. However, reaching high levels of clay nano platelets dispersed within the material is still a pending matter which, in the event of achieving so, would translate into a more efficient use of such fillers. The use of clay within polymers is usually designed to obtain composites that integrate the fillers during the processing of the material, the fragmentation of which is left to heat and breaking forces. It is in response to this use of the fillers that an alternative processing method is to be studied: the sol-gel process, as to eventually obtain better results, more flexibility and allowing multi functionality as a consequence of the integration of the fillers at the nano scale. The project presented in the following pages is based upon the sol-gel process. Such methodology is well-known, as well as its advantages and potential uses. Nevertheless, scalability is still an unsolved problem, relegating this processing method to the field of research and small-scale laboratory production. In this sense, the following report aims the development and study of a PLA based multifunctional nano composite produced by such process with higher concentrations of fillers and an increased effectiveness, by which a groundbreaking concept could be outlined. Concentration and processing variations are the main variables used in order to obtain a certain range of features. Hence, each sample has a different concentration of fillers, the nature of which is to be characterized in order to eventually identify any global pattern of the material as a function of its composition. The study focus on the thermo-mechanical aspects, leaving open the possibility of a deeper characterization from different points of view such as the electrical behaviour, amongst others.

The aim of this study is to develop a novel multi-functional polymer nanocomposite for potential usage in aerospace. It is based on facile approach to produce microcellular PEI based foams reinforced with graphene nanoplatlets (GnP) with around 3 times reduction in weight compared to solid material using water vapor induced phase separation process. In order to find optimal composition of the material with maximum advancement of properties the foams were prepared with different concentrations of polymer in solvent (25 and 30 wt %) and loadings of the GnP (1, 2, 5 and 10 wt %) which affect the properties of the nanocomposite material. Additionally, the effect of adding a fraction of PAI and different thicknesses have been studied. Regarding the morphology of the material, PEI-GnP foams displayed a quite regular closed-cell microcellular structure with high degree of interconnectivity. The average cell size achieved was in the interval 7.5 - 13.5 Êm, and the cell density value in 6.9 x 108 - 3.4 x 109 cell/cm3. The average cell size increased slightly and as a consequence cell density decreased with rising the concentration of GnP and the thickness of the foam. For PEI nanocomposite foams the flow generated during cellular formation allows the graphene to place on cell walls whereas for PAI/PEI nanocomposite foams with smaller cell size, due to noticeable difference between the mean size of graphene particles and the cell size, the material forms a different structure where the graphene induces a relatively larger cells around itself. The thermal stability of the foams was analyzed by means of TGA. A two-step thermal decomposition mechanism similar to solid PEI was identified, where the first step was related to degradation of non-aromatic part of PEI and the second step was correspondence to simultaneous decomposition of the aromatic part of PEI and graphene. Higher thermal stability was obtained in PEI-GnP foams compare to PEI foams as a consequence of the barrier effect of graphene nanoplatlets located in the cell walls. Decomposition of the material seemed to be driven by two compatible features, the thermal conductivity and barrier effect, both induced by the filler. For different concentrations the material behaved differently. At concentration of 2 wt% GnP the material seemed to reach its optimal thermal stability compared to 5 and 10 wt% GnP where foams displayed a less homogeneous cellular morphology with more significant presence of interconnected cells and GnP aggregates. With regard to dynamic mechanical properties, it was found that the storage modulus (E ) was increased remarkably with both addition of GnP and density of the foam. Moreover, a reduction of tan  in samples with higher fraction of filler indicates the improvement in stiffness of the material for same reasons. Slight variations of Tg were observed, while there was a direct influence of the relative density, a dual trend with regard to the GnP concentration was found. For low GnP loadings (0-2 wt%), the Tg did not change or slightly increased while for more than 2wt% it decreased notably. Although the electrical conductivity measurements show a steep increase for the nanocomposite foam with 2 vol% of GnP, pointing out that for this certain concentration, the conductive network established by the GnP overcomes the insulative properties of the polymer and presenting that for lower concentrations, the particles were too far apart to conduct a network, a tunnel like approach found to fit the experimental data, also explaining the existence of conduction for lower GnP loadings than expected based on percolation.
