The work presented focuses on research on the implementation of Ethernet networks in a vehicle, with the aim of overcoming the limitations of the protocols that have been used in recent years in terms of data transmission capacity. With the constant growth in the incorporation of multimedia devices and advanced driver assistance systems, such as cameras and GNSS systems, Ethernet appears as a viable alternative to improve connectivity and manage larger volumes of information within vehicles. In addition, the project aims to develop tools for the analysis of CAN frames encapsulated in Ethernet frames, using open source software to reduce costs and increase flexibility in its implementation. The methodology used has consisted of an exhaustive analysis of the most relevant tools and communication protocols in the automotive sector, such as Vector CANoe, Pcan Explorer and Vehicle Spy. In terms of protocols, CAN, CAN-FD and FlexRay, among others, are investigated. In parallel, the development of customized tools using Python has been carried out, as well as the modification of the Wireshark dissectors, in order to facilitate the analysis and visualization of vehicle data. These tools include a generator of DBC files form xlsx files, used to interpret CAN, CAN-FD, LIN and Ethernet messages, another script to decapsulate CAN frames contained in Ethernet frames and a tool to verify the reliability of the captures, which has allowed this type of information to be captured and analysed in Wireshark. The results obtained help to understand the implementation of Ethernet in a vehicle, showing the usefulness of the tools developed. They allow a deeper and more detailed analysis of vehicular traffic, favoring the integration of open and collaborative solutions in the automotive field. With this, a solid base is established to continue researching the optimization of vehicular networks and the evolution towards more advanced and efficient architectures.

El trabajo final de grado se centra en la investigación sobre la implementación de Ethernet en las redes presentes en un vehículo, con el objetivo de superar las limitaciones de los protocolos que se han usado en los últimos años en términos de capacidad de transmisión de datos. Con el crecimiento constante en la incorporación de dispositivos multimedia y sistemas avanzados de asistencia al conductor, como cámaras y sistemas GNSS, Ethernet aparece como una alternativa viable para mejorar la conectividad y gestionar mayores volúmenes de información dentro de los vehículos. Además, el proyecto tiene como meta el desarrollo de herramientas para el análisis de tramas CAN encapsuladas en tramas Ethernet, utilizando software de código abierto que permita reducir los costes y aumentar la flexibilidad en su implementación. La metodología empleada ha consistido en un análisis exhaustivo de las herramientas y los protocolos de comunicación más relevantes en el sector de la automoción, tales como Vector CANoe, Pcan Explorer, Vehicle Spy y Wireshark en software y CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet y FlexRay para los protocolos. Paralelamente, se ha llevado a cabo el desarrollo de herramientas personalizadas utilizando Python, así como la modificación de los disectores de Wireshark, con el fin de facilitar el análisis y la visualización de datos vehiculares. Entre estas herramientas se destacan un generador de archivos DBC a partir de archivos xlsx, utilizado para interpretar mensajes CAN, CAN-FD, LIN y Ethernet, un script para desencapsular tramas CAN contenidas en tramas Ethernet y una herramienta para verificar la fiabilidad de las capturas, lo que ha permitido capturar y analizar en Wireshark este tipo de información. Los resultados obtenidos ayudan a comprender la implementación de Ethernet en un vehículo, mostrando la utilidad de las herramientas desarrolladas. Estas nos permiten un análisis más profundo y detallado del tráfico vehicular, favoreciendo la integración de soluciones abiertas y colaborativas en el ámbito de la automoción. Con ello, se establece una base sólida para continuar investigando la optimización de las redes vehiculares y la evolución hacia arquitecturas más avanzadas y eficientes.

This work analyzes the IEEE 802.11be standard, known as Wi-Fi 7, the next generation of the Wi-Fi communication technology. The main objectives of this study are focused on exploring the technical improvements offered by Wi-Fi 7 compared to previous generations, assess its performance in different application scenarios, and provide an overview of the potential innovations it will bring to wireless communications. To achieve these objectives, a methodology was followed that includes a comprehensive review of the existing literature on the prior Wi-Fi generations, with a particular focus on the technical characteristics of Wi-Fi 7. This includes the analysis of improvements at the physical layer, such as the use of 4096-QAM, the increased channel bandwidth, and the use of the 6 GHz band. Innovations in the MAC layer have also been analyzed, especially regarding the multi-link operation (MLO). The hardware devices and software tools used in the tests are throroughly described in this document, including access points, network cards, and spectrum analyzers. The tests were carried out in various scenarios, both indoors and outdoors, to evaluate the performance of the new standard in real-world situations. Those measurements were also used to improve the predictions of theoretical propagation-loss models. The results show that Wi-Fi 7 provides a significant increase in maximum transmission speed and better spectrum management, which is especially useful in environments with a high density of devices. The study also highlights the new standard's ability to maintain more stable connections with lower latency, thanks to its technological advancements. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the IEEE 802.11be standard represents a significant evolution in the field of wireless communications, offering key advantages that address the growing need for broadband and connectivity in various application domains.

Aquest treball analitza l'estàndard IEEE 802.11be, conegut com a Wi-Fi 7, la pròxima generació de tecnologia de comunicacions Wi-Fi. Els objectius principals d'aquest estudi són els d'explorar les millores tècniques que ofereix Wi-Fi 7 en comparació amb les generacions anteriors, avaluar el seu rendiment en diferents escenaris d'aplicació i proporcionar una visió general de les potencials innovacions que aportarà a les comunicacions sense fils. Per assolir aquests objectius, s'ha seguit una metodologia que inclou una revisió exhaustiva de la literatura existent sobre les diferents generacions de Wi-Fi, amb un enfocament particular en les característiques tècniques de Wi-Fi 7. Això inclou l'anàlisi de les millores en la capa física, com ara l'ús de 4096-QAM, l'augment en l'amplada de banda del canal i l'ús de la banda de 6 GHz. També s'han analitzat les novetats en la capa MAC, especialment l'operació multi-enllaç (MLO). A més, s'han descrit els dispositius de hardware i les eines software utilitzades en les proves, incloent-hi punts d'accés, targetes de xara i analitzadors d'espectre. Les proves s'han dut a terme en diferents escenaris, tant interiors com exteriors, per avaluar el rendiment del nou estàndard en situacions reals. Aquestes mesures també han servit per millorar les prediccions d'alguns models teòrics de propagació. Els resultats mostren que Wi-Fi 7 proporciona un augment significatiu en la velocitat de transmissió màxima i una millor gestió de l'espectre, molt útil sobretot en entorns amb alta densitat de dispositius. També es destaca la capacitat del nou estàndard per mantenir connexions més estables i amb menor latència, gràcies a les seves millores tecnològiques. En conclusió, aquest estudi demostra que l'estàndard IEEE 802.11be suposa una evolució important en el camp de les comunicacions sense fils, oferint avantatges clau que responen a les necessitats creixents de banda ampla i connectivitat en diferents àmbits d'aplicació.

This study examines the viability of the new IEEE 802.11ax amendment, certified as Wi-Fi 6/6E, as a wireless communication interface. To achieve this objective, key parameters of this technology are evaluated, such as maximum throughput, scan time, and handover time, through tests with commercial Wi-Fi 6/6E devices. Additionally, the most congested frequency bands and channels are examined, particularly within the 6 GHz band, in order to minimize interference in the link between the drone and the ground control. Finally, the coverage that this technology provides in missions conducted at the DroneLab of the Parque Mediterráneo de la Tecnología is analyzed. These goals are organized into seven chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of the IEEE 802.11 standard, reviewing its history, key concepts, and amendments to date. The second chapter focuses on drones, their flight principles, and how Wi-Fi 6/6E can enhance their operations. The following chapters encompass the experimental part, including throughput, scanning, and transfer tests in the laboratory, as well as studies on Wi-Fi network distribution in three Spanish cities. Finally, at the DroneLab, a 3D Wi-Fi coverage map is created, studying its behavior in each band. The work concludes with recommendations for future research and an analysis of the sustainability of this technology. The results show high throughput values, reaching up to 2 Gbps. Significant improvements in scan and transfer times are also observed; however, they are not sufficient for certain drone use cases. Nevertheless, the Wi-Fi 6/6E certification is not yet widely adopted, as its presence in cities is only 0.1\%. Regarding coverage, the three analyzed bands are capable of supporting applications such as video streaming at most points in the DroneLab. However, the 6 GHz band presents certain limitations at the edges of this volume. In summary, considering the limitations and leveraging the advantages, this technology could represent a significant advancement in the field of drones, improving the performance of their wireless communications.

El presente trabajo estudia la viabilidad como interfaz de comunicaciones inalámbricas de la nueva enmienda IEEE 802.11ax, certificada como Wi-Fi 6/6E. Para lograr este objetivo, se evalúan parámetros clave de esta tecnología, como el throughput máximo, el tiempo de escaneo y el tiempo de traspaso, mediante pruebas con dispositivos comerciales de Wi-Fi 6/6E. Además, se examinan las bandas y canales de frecuencia más congestionados, especialmente dentro de la banda de 6 GHz, con el fin de minimizar las interferencias en un enlace entre el dron y el control en tierra. Finalmente, se analiza la cobertura que esta tecnología proporciona en las misiones realizadas en el DroneLab del Parque Mediterráneo de la Tecnología. Estas metas se organizan en siete capítulos. El primero ofrece una visión general del estándar IEEE 802.11, repasando su historia, conceptos clave y enmiendas hasta la fecha. El segundo capítulo se centra en los drones, sus principios de vuelo y como Wi-Fi 6/6E puede mejorar sus operaciones. Los siguientes capítulos componen la parte experimental, que incluye pruebas de throughput, escaneo y traspaso en el laboratorio, así como estudios sobre la distribución de redes Wi-Fi en tres ciudades españolas. Finalmente, en el DroneLab, se elabora un mapa 3D de cobertura Wi-Fi, estudiando su comportamiento en cada banda. El trabajo concluye con recomendaciones para futuras investigaciones y un análisis sobre la sostenibilidad de esta tecnología. Los resultados muestran altos valores de throughput, alcanzando hasta 2 Gbps. También, se observan mejoras significativas en los tiempos de escaneo y traspaso; sin embargo, no son suficientes para ciertos casos de uso en drones. Aun así, la certificación Wi-Fi 6/6E aún no está ampliamente adoptada, dado que cuenta con una presencia del 0.1\% en las ciudades. En cuanto a la cobertura, las tres bandas analizadas son capaces de soportar aplicaciones como el streaming de video en la mayoría de los puntos del DroneLab. No obstante, la banda de 6 GHz presenta ciertas limitaciones en los extremos de este volumen. En resumen, considerando las limitaciones y potenciando las ventajas, esta tecnología podría suponer un avance significativo en el ámbito de los drones, mejorando el rendimiento de sus comunicaciones inalámbricas.

This project develops the framework for an interurban digital twin, replicating a section of the C-32 highway in Catalonia. The objective of this Digital Twin is to study strategies for reducing congestion, extract results, analyse them and draw conclusions. The Digital Twin is supplied with real data from the highway to accurately represent real congested situation. It uses Aimsun Next software tool to simulate the scenario and employs strategies to alleviate the congestion. Subsequently, the results from each simulation are collected. The project also contains a discussion on which output parameters can be used to determine the most effective strategy and the reasoning used to reach this conclusion. Furthermore, the project includes an analysis of the feasibility of this Digital Twin and proposes potential solutions to the encountered problems.

Este proyecto tiene como objetivo desarrollar el marco de un gemelo digital interurbano que replica una sección de la autopista C-32 en Cataluña. El objetivo de este Gemelo Digital es investigar estrategias para reducir la congestión, analizar los resultados y extraer conclusiones. El Gemelo Digital se alimenta con datos reales de la autopista para representar con precisión una situación de congestión. Utiliza la herramienta de software Aimsun Next para simular varios escenarios y estrategias para mitigar la congestión. Posteriormente, el Gemelo Digital recopila los resultados de cada simulación. El proyecto también incluye una discusión sobre la selección de los parámetros de salida adecuados para determinar la estrategia más efectiva y la justificación detrás de esta decisión. Adicionalmente, el proyecto abarca una evaluación de la viabilidad de este Gemelo Digital y explora posibles soluciones a los problemas encontrados.

Aquest projecte té com a objectiu desenvolupar el marc d'un bessó digital interurbà que replica una secció de l'autopista C-32 a Catalunya. L'objectiu d'aquest Bessó Digital és investigar estratègies per reduir la congestió, analitzar els resultats i arribar a conclusions. El Bessó Digital rep dades reals de l'autopista per representar amb precisió una situació de congestió. Utilitza l'eina Aimsun Next per simular diversos escenaris i estratègies per mitigar la congestió. Posteriorment, el Bessó Digital recull els resultats de cada simulació. El projecte també inclou una discussió sobre la selecció dels paràmetres de sortida adequats per determinar la estratègia més efectiva i el raonament darrere d'aquesta decisió. Addicionalment, el projecte aborda una avaluació de la viabilitat d'aquest Bessó Digital i explora possibles solucions als problemes trobats.
