Abstract

The following pages contain a strategic recommendation for SCHOTT AG, a Germanbased multinational, to enter the market of optical materials and components for laser applications. The company, through its Business Unit “Advanced Materials” is currently successfully supplying optical materials and components made of glass to several markets. Is there a profitable opportunity for the company to join the Laser Market now? This Thesis' aim is to answer that question by following a basic strategic process, which includes an external analysis based on the Five Forces Model, an application of the Resource-based Theory as a way to internally analyze the company and the construction of a first Strategic Plan as a formulation of the Strategy.
